Junior Football

In our Junior Competitive Teams, the club aims to provide an environment where player development is the key motivator for players and coaches. In 2009 ACE was selected as one of only six clubs in Brisbane to participate in the Rebel Sport Junior Premier League (RSJPL) which includes representative squads from the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Northern NSW and South West Queensland.  To be selected ACE had to submit an application to Football Brisbane and  Football Queensland and demonstrate the club's ability to meet the high standards set for club facilities, strategic direction and player development capabilities. Our selection is an acknowledgement of the effort that our Management andTechnical teams have put into player development programs and the club's facilities.

Essentially this translates to providing the option for players to play and train as much as possible for football under a positive, safe and professional coaching and playing environment. As part of the membership and sign on fee, all players receive either one or two training sessions per week depending on the division plus a weekend match. In addition the club offers a number of other user-pays development programs that have been prepared by the Technical Directors and Senior Technical Staff. These programs complement the regular training provided seeking to emphasise a player's technical ability. These initiatives include:

  1. Coaching Clinics
  2. ACE Football School
  3. Off-Season 5 A Side Competition
  4. School Holiday Clinics
  5. Soccer Carnivals

All players seeking to develop their soccer skills and playing abilities are encouraged to participate in as many of these programs as possible.

TRIALS AND GRADING

Selection of players into squads occurs either through trials or grading.  RSJPL squads, Under 16 BJL and U12, U13, U14, U15 and U16 Division 1 squads are selected through a series of trials prior to the season commencing.  Information and dates associated with trials is usually published on our Home Page.

All other teams are selected by grading player's on the basis of each player’s skills and commitment to training and playing. ACE Policy on grading competition teams into divisions is to endeavor to place teams in the highest division possible according to the abilities of players in the team. Our mission for junior football is to develop our players into fine athletes, with an emphasis on enjoying the game of Football through self-development, whilst preparing for their senior playing years.

Goalkeepers

ACE provides all interested goalkeeper specialised coaching by highly skilled individuals. Over the past three years, four of our Junior goalkeepers have been selected into Brisbane Representative squads.  Each goalkeeper is assessed and or graded based on their age and experience. Free goalkeeper sessions will be conducted once a week week. In addition ACE offers additional goalkeeper training through the ACE Football School. If the session conflicts with regular training we recommend, in the interest of team development, the keeper alternate between sessions. The goalkeeper coaching is available for Under 10 – Under 16 players.

Grading Guidelines

Grading takes place over a period of approximately four weeks. It is important to attend all grading sessions and give the player the best possible chance of making the right team. Please help by encouraging players and their friends to register during Sign-On weekend.
The following guidelines have been developed for players, parents and coaches to inform them of the grading policies of the Club.

  1. What the player does when they have the ball.
  2. What the player does when their team mates have the ball.
  3. What the player does when the opposition have the ball.
  4. How the player behaves and responds to coaching instructions
  5. Skill level
  6. Players Attitude and willingness to learn and participate.

Grading Decisions

It is club policy to grade players every year to ensure that all Junior Players have the opportunity to progress. The club encourages players and parents not to focus on which team a player is selected into, but rather, on the players own development during the season. It is important that parents are supportive of their children during the grading process.

Once ACE grading is complete, all players will be allocated a team. Football Brisbane intends to run 4 weeks of Grading Games at the start of the season. These four weeks will be used to fine tune which division each team will play in. The Director's of Junior Development in consultation with the team coach has the authority to change players during this timeframe and up to a further 2 weeks into the season if necessary. The Director's of Junior Development in consultation with the team coach also has the authority to drop players into a lower division team anytime during the season where a player is deemed to be disruptive to the coach and the team.

Grading is done by a panel of experienced coaches under the guidance of the Director's of Junior Development.

Parental coaching from the sideline is strongly discouraged during grading sessions and games.

NO DISCUSSION WILL BE ENTERED INTO BY THE CLUB WITH RESPECT TO DECISIONS MADE BY THE GRADING PANEL.

Training Details

Each team will be allocated one training session per week. BJL and Division 1 squads will be allocated a second training night. Rebel Sports Junior Premier League teams train three nights a week in accordance to the rules set out by Football Queensland. A training schedule will be published on the website during grading. Coaches and Managers will be advised by email.

Referees Fees

All divisional players U11 - U16, pay referees fees on a weekly basis which are collected by the team managers before a game commences. This fee is partly used to pay costs of officials for games and partly offset against costs of training lights, training equipment, coaches and manager’s club shirts and field maintenance.   Weekly referee fees are paid before each game irrespective of the number of officials that are present. Unfortunately there is a shortage of referees in Brisbane.

Fixture Details

Coaches and managers will be provided with fixture details as soon as they are available from Football Brisbane. It is the manager's responsibility to ensure all players are informed as to the time and venue of their game. Managers generally prefer to communicate this information to parents by email. It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that the Team Manager has their correct email address.

Communication To Parents and Players

All communication from the club occurs via the Team Manager via email including the club Newsletter. If you do not have access to email, approach your Team Manager and make some alternative arrangements. A large amount of information is also available through the club website www.acesoccer.com.au

Unregistered Player’s

Players that are not registered are not permitted to train or play at the club. Unregistered players are not covered by insurance.

Coach and Manager ID Cards

All coaches and managers will be issued with photo ID cards indicating that a coach and manager are team officials. ID Cards must be worn at all fixtures without exception. Referees may ask Coaches or Managers who are not wearing ID Cards to leave the technical area. Failure to comply could result in loss of points and a club fine.

Borrowing Players

Managers and Coaches are responsible for borrowing of players from other teams. There are strict rules for borrowing players and the breaking of these rules will result in loss of points to the team and fines to the club. Managers must keep a note of all borrowed players to ensure that they do not become ineligible for their own team. As a matter of courtesy, coaches and Managers should make arrangements with borrowing players team Coach or Manager first and then with the player and his/her parents. The club discourages any arrangements being made to borrow players without first seeking approval from the borrowed players Coach or Manager.

Spectacles

If your child is required to wear spectacles, please ensure that they have plastic lenses and that they are suitably restrained such that they cannot be dislodged during a game.

Contact Lenses

If your child wears contact lenses, it is a wise precaution to take a spare set to games.

Jewellery

Both male and female players should be aware that a match referee is entitled to request that jewellery, including chains, watches, bracelets, and body piercing such as earrings, nose rings and eyebrow studs be removed prior to a player taking the field for a match, if, in the opinion of the referee, they consider such items to be dangerous to either the player or other players.

Asthma

Players who are likely to require the use of asthma related medication during a game should have their names marked with an "A" on the match card to ensure that a referee does not refuse the use of such medication during a game.

Hats

Players, at the referee's discretion, may wear hats with soft brims.

Plaster Casts

Players are not permitted to play if they have plaster casts on broken limbs. The referee has the final say on what is considered to be dangerous to players.

Ground Officials

Football Brisbane rules require a minimum of two Ground Officials for every home game.  Each week the Ground Controller will nominate the home teams that will need to provide ground officials. this communication will go directly to the Team Manager who will then ask for voluntteers to fulfill this duty.  The club provides very clear guidelines for parents fullfilling this role. Unless ground officials are available as required, home matches cannot be played.  Each team is only likely to be nominated 3 to 4 times per season for this duty.

Trial or Friendly Games

NO team is to play a trial game against another club without first getting permission from the club. All games must be sanctioned by Football Brisbane in order for the players to be covered by insurance.

Match Balls

Match balls will be issued to the game referees prior to each match.
